Monday was a brilliant night at Wolf Trap. Before the show I met up with my friends Joe and Mike - I'd originally met them in March of 2006 in Tulsa, OK when I flew out there to see Tiger army and Morrissey and caught a ride with them & two other fans to the show the next day in Oklahoma City. w'd kept in touch since & I'd last see Joe at the Alkaline Trio show at Nation & ran into Mike at the AFI show at the Henry Fonda. Thats the cool thing about folks who travel to shows, you never know when you'll see them :) Anyway Mike flew out of the East Coast for some of the moz dates & sadly several had already gotten postponed due to Moz having a virus of some sort but thankfully the Wolf Trap show in Vienna, VA was still on. Apparently Moz had walked out halfway through the Boston show & already postponed Madison Square Garden & one in New Jersey. We didn't really believe it was gonna happen tho until Morrissey actually came on - I kept teasing them that I had made "back up plans" and if moz cancelled again we could hi-tail it to Fort Reno as the Evens were doing a free show there.
I picked them up at the metro & we grabbed some food on the way & drove down. I'd never been to Wolf Trap before but it is one of the prettiest venues I've ever seen, set into the woods in a beautiful National Park. And security was so lax they hardly cared about anything & I kicked myself for not bringing my little mini digital camera but luckily they let Joe out ofthe venue with a pass to get back in & he went to my car & grabbed his & got some nice shots from the pit! I had a ticket in the 3rd row so i was content with my view but Joe & Mike and a couple of their friends vaulted over the barrier to the put & nobody cared or tried to stop them so they made it right up front.
We intentionally missed Kristeen Young. If Tori Amos is a 2nd rate Kate Bush, Kristeen is a 15th rate Tori Amos. Enough said. Only Morrissey seems to like her (she was the one who replaced Tiger army suddenly and with NO explanation on that UK tour last year & she's opened up for Moz at every show since)
Ran into several other folks I'd met last year in Oklahoma as well as a whole group who'd come out from LA for a bunch of shows & were certainly relieved that this one was on.
Morrissey was great, seemed to be in a good mood, was constantly bending down to shake hands with the whole front row, lots of chatting between songs like:
"Welcome to the unfortunately named Wolf Trap. They should call it Bush Trap. We don't want to trap wolves, they are beautiful animals. But Bushes...." He also joked about being sick and said he's made the mistake of watching Fox News and was overcome by the poisons. His speaking voice seemed a bit raspy but singing he sounded fine and it was a great set, starting off with the Smiths' "The Queen is Dead"

Doug who was from California & made it to 22 shows this tour caught Moz's shirt (Gucci) when he threw it into the pit & was prepared to defend it to the death
