I have promised myself that every year when I got to the cat show I can get another cat rock from artist Julie Braucksick - you can check out her website here:
She hand paints rocks into the most amazing portraits of cats, generally done after ones she has rescued as she uses the money she makes from her art to fund her shelter. She does an amazing job of capturing their individual personalities and integrating the shape of the rock into the composition. The detail is amazing, even when you turn them over & can see how carefully she has painted the bottoms of the feet!
I always look forward to seeing what she has and it is difficult to pick out just one - this year I got "Felix" a little meatloafing brown tabby with his little front paws crossed and a bright and happy expression, he was done after a kitten she raised that was the son of a poor cat named Gloria that she found with one eye severely damaged & needing to be removed. She showed me a photo of Gloria when she found her & a recent one on her camera of how she looks now that she is much healthier. It feels good to be able to buy beautiful art to go for a good cause!!
Show here is my Felix rock, below are some more pix & ones of her other pieces (click on the "cat rocks" tag to see what I have gotten in prior years!)
